Instrumental music has been a part of Caldrithig, and larger Skraeling Althing, since the earliest days of the barony when local musicians first gathered together under the mantle of "Baron Henry's Players". In the generations since, the group has taken many different names and forms, but what has remained constant is the unchanging goal of bringing musical entertainment to one and all.
The group's previous incarnation was gathered together under the talented guidance of Lady Margareta van den Velde, romany expert, violin player, and music teacher extraordinaire. Under Margareta's guidance they trained up several new musicians, and played for feast hall and dance hall alike for a number of years. Eventually however, and perhaps inevitably, Margareta's life took her away to far off An Tir, and the players went dormant for a time, though the occasional musician was still spotted playing for the dancers at events here and there around the kingdom.
Today the cycle has begun anew, and the players have returned in a new incarnation. Their latest director cat herder is Lady Marie l'Englois, apprentice to the late Master Naon na Chruitire, and recorder player for several previous incarnations of the group. While Marie doesn't presume to claim the expertise and talents of her most exceptional predecessors, she is excited to continue Caldrithig's musical traditions, and will gladly teach anyone willing to sit still long enough to share her joy in music. Come join the fun!
